Uncle Dick (Dick DeCourcy)
He
can remember his earliest days in the hobby, opening penny packs of
1948 Bowman Baseball. As a nine year old he could identify each player
from the front of the card…and even to this day he wonders why the
picture on the front of the card has to be cluttered with name, team
and position. If you are a fan, you know the player by his looks.
In
1976 he founded a company known as Georgia Music and Sports. First
distributing printable music and then in the early 80’s began buying
and selling both new and old cards at shows as well as advertising for
many years in SCD.
In the early 90’s the company grew into a
full time distributorship of Topps, Fleer, Upper Deck, Ultra Pro, and
many game card companies. It eventually expanded into 3 warehouses in
Atlanta, Orlando, and Ft. Lauderdale employing up to 60 people. The
company always stressed quick, quality service and fair pricing.
As
of December 2001, as he was approaching his mid 60’s, he sold Georgia
Music and Sports and tried to retire. After a year of helping his wife
in the garden and learning that because of his age his golf game was
not going to get any better, and missing “being in the game”, he
returned to his real love of buying and selling vintage cards.
So
in late 2002 he returned to major card show circuit of the National,
Philly, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Chantilly, East Coast National, Boston as
well as many Carolina shows. He has been a table holder at “The
National” for 25 years. With higher cost of travel and with the
encouragement of collector friends to do more mail order, this website
began.
